California State Assembly District 56 issued the following announcement on Mar. 4.

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), Assemblymember Robert Rivas (D-Hollister), and Assemblymember Devon Mathis (R-Visalia) stood alongside the California Advanced Biofuels Alliance and Imperial Western Products a Coachella based company, to promote Garcia’s AB 2866, Clean Fleet Program. They gathered around the East Steps of the California State Capitol to raise awareness on the importance of emission reduction.

“California has been trailblazing global efforts on climate change and emission reduction. We must continue to lead with environmental justice and economic synergy. AB 2866 will build upon our prior success, accelerate our strides to improve air quality, and optimize critical opportunities to create green jobs in underserved areas such as the economically disenfranchised communities in my district that are heavily burdened by pollution,” stated Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia. “This policy will help bring relief to disadvantaged communities suffering from poor air quality due to emissions from heavy-duty equipment and trucks.”

AB 2866 would require the California Air Resources Board to adopt a Clean Fleet Program to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, improve air quality, and benefit low-income residents by providing certain incentives for the displacement of petroleum diesel with biofuels.

Imperial Western Products, a company headquartered in the City of Coachella, attended the event as part of the California Advanced Biofuels Alliance. Imperial Western Products is dedicated to environmental stewardship and has been setting the industry standard for proactive environmental protection and conservation, priding themselves on recycling organic waste and greenhouse gas reduction. Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia has collaborated with the local company since his time as Mayor for the City of Coachella to help bring local green job opportunities to his region.

The event also featured a food truck giveaway of french fries as part of the California Advanced Biofuels Alliance’s “Fries to Fuel” campaign that underscores the importance of cleaner fuel alternatives such as those made from used cooking oil.
