California State Assembly District 56 issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.
Governor Gavin Newsom delivered his State of the State Address before a joint convention of the California branches of government. Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following statement:
“The Governor devoted his remarks to our state’s homelessness crisis, and I commend him for placing this issue, deeply impacting our communities, at the top of his agenda. Our local cities and counties urgently require state support to address homelessness, expand mental health services, and meet our affordable housing needs. Our plans must be comprehensive, strategic, and respectful in order to ensure safety and dignity for all Californians.”
“Our region is ready to receive these investments thanks to our coordinated and collaborative local partnerships. We are fortunate to have Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez serve on the Governor’s Council of Homelessness Advisors. In this capacity, he is able to engage in the development of California’s plans of action on homelessness. His expert knowledge of both our Imperial and Riverside County areas is helping to guide policies and investments into programs best geared to meet our region’s most pressing priorities.”
“I would also like to thank Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis for her opening comments on advancing Mexican cooperation towards New River clean up. We cannot emphasize enough how critical the impact of the New River is on the economic, environmental, and public health of our border region communities. Our solutions are within reach, and we remain in active coordination with the Administration to secure the $18 million proposed in this year’s initial budget draft. These funds will allow us to complete construction on the New River Parkway Project.”
