Vargas, known for his tenure since 2013 after replacing Bob Filner, used the platform to express concerns about policies affecting both American citizens and undocumented immigrants.
On April 8, 2025, Rep. Vargas took to social media to voice his concerns regarding the actions of Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump. He stated, “Elon Musk and Trump are making it harder for Americans to get the benefits they’ve EARNED…Social Security is a lifeline for millions and they’re putting it in jeopardy. Hands OFF!”
Later that day, he addressed the issue of taxation and trust with the IRS involving undocumented immigrants.
