Rep. Juan Vargas, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 52nd district, recently took to social media to address several pressing issues. His posts focused on immigration policies and healthcare legislation, providing critical commentary on current governmental actions.
On May 7, 2025, Vargas expressed concern over the deportation of children who are U.S. citizens under the Trump administration’s policies. He highlighted one specific case involving “a four-year-old with Stage 4 cancer” who is being deported without “due process or legal access,” adding that there is “NO MEDICAL CARE for the child.” He condemned what he described as the “lawlessness and cruelty of this Administration” in his tweet.
Later that day, Vargas announced his support for a legislative measure aimed at safeguarding Medicaid. In another post, he stated, “I signed a discharge petition to force a vote to protect Medicaid,” calling upon Republican colleagues by saying, “We only need a handful Republicans to join us. This is their chance to stand up.”
Additionally, Vargas referenced findings from a new nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report regarding the potential impact of Republican budget proposals on healthcare coverage. According to his tweet, these proposals would result in millions losing their health care while billionaires receive tax breaks.
Vargas has been serving in Congress since 2013 after replacing Bob Filner and continues to reside in San Diego where he was born in National City, California in 1961.
