Rep. Juan Vargas, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 52nd district since 2013, posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account this week addressing federal funding for immigration enforcement and criticizing recent actions by former President Donald Trump.
He referred to Republican efforts to increase funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), expressing opposition due to concerns about oversight and the agency’s impact on families.
Two days later, on May 28, Vargas commented on recent events affecting the Muslim community in San Diego, “Eid Mubarak. Especially after the horrific events last week at the Islamic Center of San Diego, I’m wishing everyone observing Eid al-Adha blessings and strength.”
Later that same day, Vargas addressed alleged misuse of taxpayer funds under Donald Trump, “Donald Trump is setting up a nearly $2 BILLION taxpayer-funded slush fund for his loyalists and supporters – including January 6th rioters who attacked police officers. The corruption is out of control. It’s an outrage, and we’re fighting to stop it.”
Vargas has served in Congress since replacing Bob Filner in 2013 and previously held positions in both the California State Assembly and Senate. Born in National City in 1961, he resides in San Diego and holds degrees from the University of San Diego and Harvard University.
