Rep. Juan Vargas, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 52nd district, has been vocal on social media about recent legislative and social issues. Born in National City, California in 1961, Vargas succeeded Bob Filner in Congress in 2013 and currently resides in San Diego.

On May 21, 2025, Rep. Vargas expressed his disapproval of certain economic policies with the statement “Taking from the poor to give to the rich.”

The following day, May 22, 2025, he criticized a decision by House Republicans regarding tax legislation. He stated that the “House GOP just passed a billionaire tax giveaway at the expense of everyone else.” He described it as “the largest Medicaid and food assistance cut in American history” and “the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich.” Vargas emphasized the importance of continued opposition as the bill moves to the Senate.

Later on May 22, Vargas commented on an incident involving violence against Israeli embassy staffers. He expressed his sorrow over their deaths outside the Capital Jewish Museum by stating “I am horrified by the murder of two young Israeli embassy staffers outside the Capital Jewish Museum.” He called for condemnation of antisemitism and violence in all forms.
