On March 12, 2025, Rep. Vargas criticized proposed cuts to the Department of Education in favor of tax reductions for billionaires. He stated: “Decimating the Department of Education to pay for tax cuts for billionaires is beyond shameful. Families across the country want the best education and schools for their kids. But this is putting our children’s futures at risk. We’ll fight this every step of the way.”
The following day, March 13, 2025, he addressed the issue of a potential government shutdown due to budget disagreements. Her family was taking her to an emergency medical checkup when they were detained. This family’s story is heartbreaking. This is what Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda looks like in reality.”
