Rep. Juan Vargas, who represents California’s 52nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to comment on a range of national issues, including health care policy, economic performance under former President Trump, and immigration.
On December 1, 2025, Vargas warned about potential consequences if Congress does not act to preserve Affordable Care Act tax credits: “If the ACA tax credits are allowed to expire, health care premiums will skyrocket for millions of families in 2026. Congress has the power to stop this. We absolutely must take action. But Republicans ‘aren’t interested’ in joining Democrats to stop this health care crisis.”
The following day, December 2, he criticized economic policies associated with Donald Trump: “Trump’s economic policies are failing us. Plain and simple.”
On December 3, Vargas highlighted his personal background and advocacy for immigrant communities while speaking from the House Floor: “I am a proud son of immigrants. I know immigrants make our country stronger. I’m on the House Floor with @USProgressives and @HispanicCaucus to speak out against Trump’s continued efforts to target and terrorize immigrant communities.”
Vargas has represented California’s 52nd District since 2013 after succeeding Bob Filner. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the California State Assembly and Senate. Born in National City in 1961 and currently residing in San Diego, Vargas graduated from the University of San Diego before earning a law degree from Harvard University.
