Rep. Juan Vargas, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 52nd District since 2013, has recently addressed issues concerning immigration rights and enforcement through a series of tweets. Vargas, who has been serving in public office for several decades, emphasizes his commitment to protecting the rights of his constituents regardless of their immigration status.
On January 20, 2025, Rep. Vargas tweeted about his dedication to safeguarding the rights of residents in California’s 52nd District. He stated, “I’ll always work to protect the rights of #CA52 residents. No matter your immigration status, know your rights if you ever have an encounter with an immigration enforcement agency like ICE.”
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Rep. Vargas reiterated this message in Spanish to reach a broader audience within his district. He wrote, “Siempre trabajaré para proteger los derechos de los residentes de #CA52. Independientemente de su estatus migratorio, conozca sus derechos si algún día tiene un encuentro con una agencia de inmigración como ICE.”
On January 21, 2025, Rep. Vargas further expanded on this theme by discussing locations that should remain free from immigration enforcement activities. He expressed his view that essential service providers such as schools, places of worship, and hospitals should not be used as sites for immigration enforcement actions. In his words: “Schools, places of worship, and hospitals provide essential services to all. They should not be sites of immigration enforcement.” He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting communities under these principles.
