El Centro Post-Acute Care housed more residents than any other nursing home in Imperial County during the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data show.

This facility reported 123 available beds for the period, which is 39 above the county average at the start of 2026. An average of 116.7 residents received care at the facility each day.

CMS assigned El Centro Post-Acute Care an overall rating of 3 out of 5, which falls beneath the statewide mean of 3.2 for California nursing homes.

Pioneers Memorial Skilled Nursing Center had the next largest capacity in Imperial County for the quarter, with 99 available beds, followed by Imperial Manor, which offered 31 beds.

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, El Centro Post-Acute Care had incurred two fines totaling $10,254 and received two penalties.

Across Imperial County, there were two for-profit nursing homes as of the same period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show a continued increase in the nation’s older adult population, even as younger demographics decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 or older grew by 13%, while those younger than 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population has soared from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A study from 2021 indicates nearly half of people in this age bracket—about 28 million—may need long-term care and support. Projections also suggest more than one-third of them could eventually require nursing home services.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
